How to Trust God When Life Feels Uncertain
Let’s not lean on our own understanding when life gets hard. Let’s not let the chaos of this world steal our peace or our hope. Trusting God in uncertain times—especially when fear and anxiety are loud—isn’t always easy, I know.
I’ve battled anxious thoughts and a spirit of fear for much of my adult life, so I get it. That’s why I’ve learned to cling tightly to God’s Word when everything around me feels shaky.

I have said these things to you, That in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.
John 16:33
Amen, He has overcome!
It’s hard to scroll through social media or watch the news these days without feeling a wave of fear, sadness, or overwhelm. The world feels heavy, and if you’re anything like me, it’s tempting to just shut it all out and pretend everything’s fine.
But I’m writing this not just as a reminder for my own anxious heart—but with hope that it encourages someone else out there who’s also struggling to trust God in uncertain times. You’re not alone.
Trusting God In Times Of Uncertainty
7 Things We Can Do Daily to Strengthen Our Faith
1. PRAY Without Ceasing
Prayer is our lifeline to God. It connects our anxious hearts to His peace and reminds us that we are never alone—even in the most uncertain times. There’s not a single need we face, or a single event in this world, that catches God by surprise. He is sovereign, fully in control, and deeply aware of every detail in our lives.
Our job is to pray and trust Him to answer—maybe not in the way we expect, but always with love and wisdom, just like a good Father would. The power of prayer isn’t just something nice to do—it’s essential to the Christian life, especially when the world feels shaky.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7
2. READ THE WORD OF GOD
Trusting God in times of trouble becomes so much more natural when we truly know who He is—and the best way to know Him is through His Word. The Bible isn’t just a history book; it’s the greatest love story ever written. It’s a collection of personal letters from God Himself, written straight to your heart.
This is where we come face-to-face with the character of our Heavenly Father, the Creator of the universe, and where we meet Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, who took our place on the cross and paid the price for our freedom.
When you read the Bible with an open heart, it builds your faith and reminds you of who God is, especially when everything around you feels uncertain.
All scripture is God breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16
We find peace in God’s Word because no matter what’s happening in our personal lives—or how chaotic the world feels—we already know the ending: God wins. The victory belongs to Him, and we get to share in that hope.
That doesn’t mean we won’t face hard times or uncertain seasons, but it does mean we can rest in the peace of God, knowing that everything is held in His more-than-capable hands.
He is our strong tower, our ever-present help in times of trouble, and the One who calms our anxious thoughts when life feels overwhelming. Why? Because He loves you deeply.
So open your Bible today and soak in the truth. Your Heavenly Father has something to say to you—and His words bring peace, hope, and strength for whatever you’re walking through.
For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. Hebrews 4:12
3. BUILD UP YOUR RELATIONSHIPS
Now more than ever, in these uncertain times, we need each other. One of the ways we trust God practically is by showing up for the people He’s placed in our lives—our family, friends, neighbors, and even strangers.
Don’t let fear, division, or overwhelm harden your heart. Instead, choose to love like Jesus.
Show compassion and grace, treating everyone you encounter as the beloved child of God they are. Whether it’s a kind word, a helping hand, or simply being present. These small acts build stronger communities rooted in love.
Perfect love drives out fear, and when we cultivate love in our hearts, it pushes out bitterness, isolation, and negativity. Let’s nurture meaningful connections and reflect God’s love in real, everyday ways.
And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the day drawing near. Hebrews 10: 24-25
4. FILL YOUR HOME WITH WORSHIP MUSIC AND HYMNS
Music has the power to change the atmosphere of your heart and your home. When you’re walking through trials or facing fear and uncertainty, there’s something incredibly comforting about hearing old hymns and worship songs that remind us of God’s love and faithfulness.
Filling your home with worship music not only encourages your own heart, but it also creates a peaceful environment for your family.
If you have young children, this is a beautiful way to introduce them to Jesus and help them hide God’s Word in their hearts from an early age.
Favorite Music Resources:
- Seeds Family Worship – One of my go-to choices! Their music features Scripture word-for-word, set to joyful melodies that kids and adults both enjoy.
- Fernando Ortega – His gentle arrangements of classic hymns are soothing and full of rich, biblical truth.
Let worship be the background noise of your home—especially in uncertain times. It’s a simple, powerful way to fix your eyes on Jesus and fill your space with hope.
My Go-To Worship Playlist
I’ve also put together a Spotify worship playlist filled with songs that bring peace, remind me of God’s promises, and help shift my focus back to Him—especially when I’m feeling overwhelmed or anxious.
Feel free to play it in the background during your quiet time, while you’re cleaning, or just throughout your day. Let it fill your home with truth and encouragement.
Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth; break forth into joyous song and sing praises! Psalm 98:4
5. GO OUTDOORS AND ENJOY GOD’S CREATION
Sometimes the best thing you can do when life feels heavy is to simply step outside. Trusting God during hard times doesn’t always look like sitting still—it can look like taking a walk, breathing in fresh air, and noticing the beauty He’s placed all around you.
Feel the sunshine on your face. Listen to the birds sing. Watch the wind move through the trees. Whether it’s a quick walk around the block, a visit to a local lake, or—if you’re really lucky—a trip to the ocean, spending time in God’s creation is healing for both your heart and your soul.

Let nature remind you of who He is—the Creator of it all—and take a moment to praise Him for the blessings in your life, even in the midst of the hard.
Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these…
Matthew 6:25-34
6. PREPARE YOUR HEART AND HOME
God calls us to be watchful and ready, especially in these uncertain times.
Jesus is coming back, and He wants us to be prepared—not just physically, but spiritually too. Trusting God means living with hope and readiness for His return.
Let’s not be like the five foolish virgins who weren’t ready when the bridegroom came.
Instead, let’s keep our hearts and homes in order, staying vigilant in prayer, faith, and obedience. Preparing isn’t about fear, it’s about living with confident hope and expectancy.
Continue in Him, so that when He appears we may be confident and unashamed before Him at His coming. 1 John 2:28
No one knows about the day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Matthew 24:36
7. TURN OFF THE NEWS AND SOCIAL MEDIA
This is honestly something I’m still working on myself.
While it’s important to stay aware of what’s happening in our communities and the world, too much news and information all at once can overwhelm us. Technology makes it easy to get instant updates 24/7, but our minds and hearts weren’t designed to handle that flood of information nonstop.
Give yourself permission to turn off the news and social media for most of the day. Protect your peace by choosing when and how much you take in.
Choosing Faith Over Fear Every Day
I hope these seven simple steps help you on your journey of trusting God in times of uncertainty. I’ve found that it takes an intentional, daily choice to focus on God’s truth and the good news instead of getting swallowed by the overwhelming world we live in.
My prayer for all of us is that the Holy Spirit will fill us with His spirit of truth as we put on the full armor of God, found in His Word. May He give us fresh strength, pure joy, and courage to face whatever comes our way.

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

Frequently Asked Questions About Trusting God in Uncertain Times
Q: What if I pray and still feel scared or anxious?
A: I get it. Praying doesn’t mean our fears just magically disappear overnight.
Trusting God is a daily choice, not a one-time fix. Sometimes, it means bringing those fears honestly to Him again and again and asking Him to help us take the next step. God promises His peace, even in the middle of our struggles.
Q: How can I trust God when things feel so out of control?
A: It’s hard! But trusting God doesn’t mean having all the answers or feeling 100% sure all the time.
It means believing that God is bigger than the chaos, that He sees the whole picture, and that He loves you deeply. Holding onto His promises and spending time in His Word helps anchor our hearts when the world feels heavy.
Q: What if my prayers aren’t answered the way I want?
A: Sometimes God says “no” or “wait” for reasons we don’t understand right away. But His love for you is perfect, and His timing is always best. Trusting Him means believing He is working even when we don’t see it yet.
Q: How do I help my kids trust God when they’re scared?
A: Kids watch what we do more than what we say.
Let them hear you pray, see you read your Bible, and watch how you handle your fears with faith. Fill your home with worship music and Bible stories, and remind them God is bigger than any problem.
Q: How often should I read the Bible or pray to keep trusting God?
A: There’s no perfect formula. Some days it’s a quick prayer; other days you might spend longer reading and journaling.
The key is just showing up, making space daily to connect with God and remind yourself of His faithfulness.

Amen! Such good reminders. Thank you!
I love this post! I love your practical advice. One thing I’ve started doing lately is memory verses. This helps me to not only memorize scripture, but it forces me to look into what it actually means. It’s hard to memorize something if you don’t know what it means!
Oh man, I needed that first verse today! This has been a rough year for me, and peace is something I’ve been craving and seeking God for.
I’ve made a conscious effort to not read the news on FB anymore (just started a week ago), as I found it actively contributing to my anxiety and mood- your #7!
I’m right there with you, I took a 9 month break from instagram and try to limit FB as much as I can.
Thank you so much for sharing this, Suani! It was so encouraging and so needed right now! God bless you! 😊🙏🏻
I’m so glad you found it encouraging Shanna. I think a lot of us are feeling the same way right now.
