Prayers In The Bible To Pray Over Your Teenager

Sharing is caring!

Praying over our children, no matter their age, is THE most important thing we will ever do for them, but sometimes we don’t know how to pray for them. A good place to start is by using prayers in the bible, there is nothing more powerful than God’s word.

What to do When We Lack a Prayer Life

Prayer doesn’t always come easy. Sometimes we feel uninspired or repetitive in our prayers and for some reason we might even feel like they need to have a certain level of sophistication.

I remember hearing about moms who would spend hours praying over their children or praying in general, and comparing myself to them would feel embarrassed and ashamed for not being able to do the same. Mom bible study groups used to intimidate me because my prayers didn’t sound as good as the other moms, and a lot of times I just really didn’t know what I should be praying for besides the usual “keep Tommy safe” or “please bless my boys today”.

Over time my prayer life evolved, and as I got closer to the Lord it became easier to pray but it still felt like I wasn’t able to communicate what my heart was feeling – my worries and my fears. I then read the book Praying the Scriptures for your Children by Jodie Berndt, and I had an aha! moment. I could use the prayers in the bible to pray!

Praying God’s Word

Now I know how I can pray for my children with purpose and power! No one cares or loves my children more than God does. He not only loves them but has a purpose and a plan for them. His plan for them far outweighs my very limited view of what their life can ultimately become if they choose to follow him.

Hebrews 4:12 says “the word of God is living and active” so that tells me it is powerful and supernatural, It carries the full weight of God Almighty! So let me encourage you mama to use the prayers in the bible daily. Write them down and stick them on your bathroom mirror, in-front of the kitchen sink, on the refrigerator, anywhere, everywhere, simply insert your child’s name in the verse and pray them as you go about your day.

Final Thoughts

“The Bible is God’s written revelation to man. It is the only book that gives us entirely accurate information about God, man’s need, and God’s provision for that need. It provides us with guidance for life and tells us how to receive eternal life. The Bible can do these things because it is God’s inspired word.” -Introduction to the Holman Christian Standard Bible

When our third baby was born I purchased a journal Bible where I can write down my prayers for him, hopes for his future, and share with him favorite verses and important dates through the years. It has become a place where I can pour out my heart to God. This Bible will one day be passed down to him, that he may be able to see God’s great love for him.

If you need a good resource for Christian parenting help and guidance, Focus on the family is a great place to start.

I sincerely hope this will encourage and help as you boldly intercede through prayer for your children.
