Babies and toddlers at every stage will love this list of books, however, the twelve to eighteen month window seem to be the sweet spot for real enjoyment and entertainment for these books.
Encourage quiet time
If your baby frequently skips nap time like my little peanut does, you might find yourself trying to implement a ten to twenty minute quiet time routine at this age. Start by reading these books to him/her first, and then leave them in a safe place like their crib or playpen by themselves to explore and play with the books.
Poke-A-Dot books are so much fun for babies especially when they figure out how to poke the dots themselves to hear different sounds. The colorful pictures and sensory activity makes this collection of Melissa and Doug books a favorite, keeping baby completely entertained.
That’s not my bear is a cute little book about someone searching for their bear. The book encourages interactive play by featuring textured patches for baby to scratch and feel and It has simple colorful pages and illustrations.
Where is Baby’s Belly Button? This is a lift the flap book. It goes through each page searching for baby’s belly button under different flaps for baby to lift and look under. The only downside to this book, and most lift the flap books, is that the flaps will often get ripped off the page by little babies and toddlers.
Any time reading favorites

Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? This is a classic! A favorite in our home for the last sixteen years, so much that we’re on our third copy. The bright colors and rhyming repetitive text draws in babies and toddlers alike.
Welcome to the World is a darling beautifully illustrated book. It follows a little elephant as it discovers the wonders the world has to offer. Celebrating the birth of a new baby is such a blessing and this book emphasizes exactly that. The only negative about this book is that it isn’t a board book, therefore you can’t let baby play with it if you don’t want the pages ripped apart.

Goodnight Moon. If i’m being completely honest, I didn’t think I was going to like this book as much as I did. I purchased it as a last pick just so I could get a discount. It was one of those buy 3 books get one free type of deals. I knew it was supposed to be a classic children’s book but it never appealed to me. As it turns out it has become one of our all time favorites! It is beautifully written, the perfect book to wind down at the end of the day.
I Love You to the Moon and Back, is the last reminder you want to leave your little one with at the end of the day. A mama (or papa bear) reminds the cub of all the things she loves about their intimate relationship, all the way to the last page where it ends with:
“I love you to the moon and stars, my precious little one.”
