Spring is one of the most beautiful times of the year. Cute little blooms begin to emerge and the dark cold days of winter begin to slowly fade away. The only downside to spring is the side effects that sometimes come with it. Seasonal allergies.

If you or your loved ones start to get itchy noses and other allergy symptoms as soon as spring season comes around, then keep reading to hopefully find natural remedies that work for you.

This is not medical advise. I am not a doctor or healthcare professional, I am a mom who for the last 17 years has dedicated herself to the well being of her growing family. I encourage you to do your own research before adding essential oils into your own wellness routine. Please use this blog post as general information and not as replacement for medical advice.

Symptoms Of Seasonal Allergies

Sometimes it’s hard to know the difference between allergies and the common cold.

I never had issues with allergies until I was in my 30’s. For the longest time I thought I suffered from frequent colds when in reality it was seasonal allergies. Here are the symptom differences between allergies and colds.

Symptoms Of Allergies

  • Hay fever / Allergic rhinitis
  • Nasal congestion
  • Runny nose
  • Watery eyes
  • Itchy Eyes
  • Scratchy throat

Symptoms Of Common Cold

  • Viral infection sometimes accompanied by fever
  • Runny or stuffy nose
  • Sore throat
  • Cough
  • Congestion
  • Body aches

How Do You Use Essential Oils For Allergies?

Essential oils can be used in a variety of ways for allergy relief.

You can make roller bottle blends to apply directly to your skin irritation from itching, hives, or a rash caused by allergies.

Diffuse into the air to help with respiratory issues.

You can even use them to prevent the spread or formation of home allergens like mold and dust mites. Make the spray blend below and apply it where allergens most commonly form. Bathrooms, mattresses, dark humid basement etc.

Best Essential Oils For Allergies

Tea Tree oil has anti-fungal, antibacterial, and anti viral properties. Use in topical blends for skin irritations.

Lavender is a soothing gentle oil that relives inflammation and encourages relaxation when applied topically or breathed in. Lavender essential oil is wonderful to treat a sinus headache or other hay fever symptoms.

Peppermint oil helps with opening the airways for easy breathing when suffering from nasal congestion.

Roman Chamomile soothes symptoms of skin allergies.

Lemon oil is known for its antioxidant and antibacterial properties. It boosts the immune system while helping to get rid of toxins in your body.

Eucalyptus essential oil is one of my personal favorites when suffering from the common cold and allergy respiratory system issues. It relieves sinus congestion and works as an anti-inflammatory.

Frankincense is known as the king of oils. It has shown to have anti-inflammatory properties that help alleviate sinus pressure and congestion. You can add it to a roller bottle to sooth a skin allergic reaction or diffuse indoors during allergy season.

Choosing A Pure Essential Oils brand

There are many reputable essential oil companies. When choosing a brand make sure they disclose the botanical name, country of origin, how the oil is sourced, and complete transparency of testing results.

You should also look for quality ID number ( or batch ID number) and the expiration date printed on each bottle.
